Can I use Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2 on this rom?
Overall the answer is no. Some functions (like the toolbox) will work. However you do not want to push any roms / themes / applications to this build because you will break it. They aren't made for 2.1. :) Once this project has stabilized a little bit I'll be hammering away at the kitchen.
How do I use the live wallpapers (lwp)?
Live wallpapers started on the nexus and they are made for vanilla android, not for sense. For that reason if you want to use them, you need to stop using sense. You can do that one of two ways.
1) Completely remove SenseUI (Rosie.apk) from /system/app/Rosie.apk . If you do that and reboot then the phone will default to Android Home. Then just change your wallpaper to a live one.
2) The other option (which you can see me doing in the video) is using both. You can do that by doing:
Menu < Settings < Applications < Manage Applications < HTC Sense < Clear Defaults
Now when you hit the Home button it will ask you if you want to use Home or HTC Sense. As long as you don't check "use by default" then it will ask you every time you hit Home. If you prefer it to go to Home or Rosie every time then just check that and pick which one you want.
How well do live wallpapers work?
Many of them work really well. They aren't really made for our phones so some run a little slow. Additionally any that require OpenGL 2 won't work. But there are a lot of free ones on the market that work great. I have included a few with the rom. Keep in mind that these aren't made for our phones so it may not be 100% stable. :)
What are protected apps / how can I get them?
Protected apps are applications on the market that are considered copy protected. Probably the most popular one that people ask about is twidroid. With a developer rom like this you can not see protected apps. Now that doesn't mean you aren't able to use them. If you have purchased any apps or there are any apps that you want that are protected then you need to download them from another rom and then back them up. Once you back it up you will have the .apk that you can then install on this rom.

I know this is going to finger me as a complete noob, but when you say it will require a wipe, what exactly does the wipe do? What do you lose as a result of the wipe? I do appreciate the time you guys take to help us beginners get a better handle on this….
Also, Good work Flipz!! Been waiting for the 2.1

I used adb. Just copy all the apks from /data/app-private/ to your sdcard. The instructions are:
>adb shell
>$su
>#cd /data/app-private/
>#ls
**this will show you all of the apks in that directory.
>#cp example.apk /sdcard/apps/repeat cp command for all of your apps. also, don’t put in the dollar or pound signs. Those are what you should see in the terminal. You can put the files just on the sdcard, but for organization, make an apps folder and put them in there using the command I gave. most apks will say something like: com.company.dev.appname.apk. You need to type the whole thing exactly as it says.

i agree with the stock android keyboard. i really enjoy the emoticons key as well as the voice option in the keyboard. also could we porty over the nexus launcher? actually you should just make a vanillla android fresh rom with all of this so we have a choice between sense ui and vanilla android

Very nice job. I have tried your other beta rom. The camera not working kinda sucked, so I switched back. And I did miss some apps. I’ll see what I can do to back up the protected ones. I just donated. Kinda overdue. I really appreciate all the work you put into your roms. I recommend them to everyone.

Whoa! Man this is a great ROM. Super fast and great feature enhancments. Simple things available with 2.1 like being able to search exchange server for a contact info eliminates the need for Touchdown, and other more rubust enhancements too numerous to mention.
I’ve installed on 2 Heros so far with one to go. The only glitch I ran into was forgetting to do a wipe on the first one – operator error.
Thanks again for all of your time and effort Flipz!

Wow! This is Huge! Congratulations. I’m assuming, since it’s a 2.6.29 kernel, that you guys were able to port over the Eris kernel?
