Coming Soon: Fresh Kitchen 3.0
Fresh Kitchen 3.0 beta 1 is on it’s way to donors and testers (v2 never even got released) and this is a place for them to discuss any issues. And trust me… there will be issues. Haha. It was a big project to add Hero and Evo support in to one and I’m sure that there are little things that I missed.
Changes:
- Added support for the Evo and the Hero in to one application.
- Includes Evo 2.1 and 2.2
- Includes Sprint Hero 2.1
- Cooking a rom for 1.5 is no longer supported. If there are a large number of people that want this back then I can look in to adding it… but I’m not sure why people would want that.
- I don’t have any immediate plans for making a 2.2 rom for the hero. Not because I’m dropping support for the Hero or anything but not only is froyo huge when you add in all of the HTC Sense stuff but that would be a pretty big undertaking to get everything working right.
- Cooking a rom for 1.5 is no longer supported. If there are a large number of people that want this back then I can look in to adding it… but I’m not sure why people would want that.
- There are no auto-rooters right now for either phone.
- Added netbook support! Woo. FYI I don’t actually have a netbook so let me know if you have any issues.
Install notes:
- I am using a different msi/install creator for this version because I got fed up with InstallAware. I HIGHLY recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of Fresh Kitchen first to ensure that it doesn’t leave any files behind that will interfere with this one because it will not recognize that a previous copy was already installed.
- The download now consists of 1 small exe file that downloads various cab files based on which options you pick during the install. This was to prevent everyone from having to download a 550mb exe.
- If you have any issues with this working then please let me know.
- You MUST pick a phone and Android version during the install. The installer won’t stop you if you don’t, however nothing will work right.

- The first time you run Fresh Kitchen it’s going to grab an update to the updater. Once that’s done you can close the kitchen and open it again and it will then download an update for the kitchen. This is because I changed a couple of things before I even released it that were bugging me. :)
Still to do before public release:
- I need to add visuals for both phones. Right now there are almost no options for what you can change to build your custom theme. They are coming and will be updated via Fresh Updater for those who are testing this.
- I need to mess with the window sizes for both the normal view and netbook view. Some how they got a little off and it’s just not looking as pretty as it used to. Even though it’s a little visual thing, this is at the top of my list of things to fix because it really annoys me.
- I currently don’t have any error traps built in that will try and prevent you from (for example) creating a rom for Evo 2.2 if you chose to not install the 2.2 files when you first installed it, it is going to just keep failing. So make sure to get the files that you’ll need during the install.
- The icon needs fixed… it’s looking rough.
- When cooking a rom, clicking on “Iron Man (Standard Fresh)” will not actually pick everything that would be included in standard Fresh Rom. I haven’t updated it for all of the different phones and builds. So don’t trust that button for now.
In fact I think I’ll disable it. Yea… it’s disabled. - Add more debugging information
- Get feedback from you!
Features of Fresh Evo Kitchen:
- Cook your own custom rom based on Fresh Rom’s base
- Modify your current rom to suit your needs. This will likely also work on other roms too, but I make no guarantees.
- Backup and restore texts, your dictionary, scenes, browser settings, and more.
- Install themes
- Push or pull any file to or from your phone
- Add or remove any application
- More!
These are from an old release but are still 90% relevant. If you have never used Fresh Kitchen before then I highly recommend you watch them. Not only will they help you know what to do but they also tell you how to properly submit a bug! Please do not submit a bug without watching these videos… aka make sure you pastebin me a full debug log from the kitchen!
Download: The download is currently only available for donors and testers. Check back soon.

You make a good point, however because there were limited kernels available for 2.2 right now I wanted the other kernels to still be visible if someone selected them, which is why it forces it back to 2.1 if they do. You’re right though and once the same kernels are fully functional with 2.2 (any day now) then I’ll hide it based on their choice.

… and why didn’t you give me a debug log?
I say like 3 times to watch the video to see how to make one, and to give me one if you are reporting an issue. My best guess is you are cooking for the Hero. During the “pick your theme” stage make sure to click on “Fresh” for all of them. That’s a temporary thing until I get some themes loaded.

Hiccup on installation, could be user error. Win 7 64bit
Was in the process of downloading all three, evo 2.1, 2.2 and hero 2.1. Download process got stuck around 90% for about 20 minutes so i pressed cancel and closed the installer. Tried to open installer again – process begins but never shows. I closed msiexec and the fresh installer exe from task manager before trying to run it again but still can’t get it to work. Did a final restart to see if it would clear any other processes preventing it from opening and it still does the same thing (run the process but not show the window).
Any ideas?

I can’t get the installer to open at all though, so I’m not even able to get to the point where I can choose what to install. You double-click the installer, it shows for a brief second and is gone. Processes in task manager show it running though…
Is there a temporary folder it saves any files to that I could dump? Maybe it thinks its still in the middle of an install?

Strange as I’m on win7 x64 and that’s what I tested it on. Thanks for the heads up though
Edit: Most likely what it was is the “run as adminstrator”. The installer does require admin escalation so if you were running it and UAC was never popping up to ask for privileges then that’s where your problem was.

Watched the videos when I used fresh for my hero months ago. I tried to install the sprint NFL app to the phone and kitchen didn’t give an error but it doesnt show up on my phone, tried rebooting but nothin. Will watch videos again, probably some detail I forgot.
Great work, flipz. Glad to see the kitchen is back. It really separates your ROMs from anything else which is why I donate. Have a good weekend.

1024×600 on a 10.1 inch screen. I may be wrong, but I imagine there are some buttons at the bottom of the screen during the initial setup process. I just kept hitting enter to get it to install. I got it installed and updated. It takes up about half the height of my screen and paragraphs and buttons are cut off at the right edge with no way of scrolling the screen to the right and back. if you know of any screen capture software, I could email you a snap shot if need be. Or I can snap it from the evo.

The full size app is 857×662. The “netbook” size is 877×380. There is definitely no reason that it should be cut off at the bottom or the sides in netbook mode on 1024×600 or at all on 1024×728.
The installer is 525×395 so no reason it should be cut off by any screen.
On Windows XP you can just hit the “print screen” button and then go paste it in to mspaint.

Please navigate to C:\Program Files\Fresh Kitchen\kitchen\evo\android\2.2\ and tell me if base.zip is in there. The error is indicating that it can’t find it which would most likely mean you didn’t include Android 2.2 for the Evo during the initial install. Re-run the installer and make sure to pick it.

Flipz, Gotta say you did a awesome job on this kitchen. I made a nice bare custom rom with out sense. Quick question is it possible to have the option to use the vanilla dialer and answer screen? If not no big deal. I fiddled with the tools section and that has some nifty features. Only suggestion would be have a select all for the apk’s in the installed apps section.

Overall it seems pretty bug free, but I have a few things to tweak (as outlined above) before it’s ready for release. I also need to look in to how I’m going to distribute it as the current installer seems to be giving a lot of people problems but having a 550mb exe installer isn’t really the right way to go either.

When you choose the base in Cook a Rom, if you choose 2.2, it still offers you the other kernel choices. If you choose one of the other kernel choices (if you are not up to date on what kernel can be used, it defaults back to 2.1. You might want to have it not allow the 2.1 kernel choices as to not confuse newbies.
