Download: Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2 | Bug found in auto-rooter
The Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2 by flipz is hot and ready for you to download!
(copy/paste from the 0.1 release because I think some people still may be new to the term kitchen)
But what is a (pre-)kitchen you ask? A kitchen is a program that allows you to take a base of a rom and basically build it how you want it so that you get a nice custom rom suited to you. Well this application isn’t quite there yet which is why I am calling it a pre-kitchen, making it version 0.1, and labeling it a beta. This is a work in progress… a proof of concept. It is taking all of the individual things that make a kitchen and building them one piece at a time, until finally we have a full working visual kitchen for Android!
This is a public beta. There will be bugs. There will be problems. Please come report them so that I can track issues but don’t come here complaining that it just doesn’t work and is crap. Nothing that this program does should cause any real damage to your phone (like brick it) however it is beta so use it safely. If you are reporting an issue then please tell me what happened, what OS you are running, what you were trying to do, and any error codes you may have. This is a windows only application.
FEATURES:
- Auto-rooter
- Stock application installer
- Stock application UNinstaller
- Theme installer
- Bootscreen installer
- Create and restore nandroid backups
- Backup and delete custom dictionary
- Backup and delete all text messages
- Clear cache
- Clear lockscreen wallpaper cache (the one that prevented the totally clear lockscreen from working after picking a custom wallpaper)
- Reboot, reboot to recovery, or power off.
Known Issues:
- 01/08/10 – A bug was found in the auto-rooter that prevents it from working. If you plan to use the auto-rooter then you need to download 0.2 and then also get the fix here. If you are not using the auto-rooter then you’re fine.
Change log (0.1 to 0.2):
- Added: Push any file to phone
- Added: Pull any file from phone (and optionally delete it)
- Added: 8 step diagnostic test under the help menu
- Added: Global debugger to give you a real error message rather than the scary JIT debugger if the program does crash
- Added: update-script generator (no documentation on this, it’s a required future feature)
- Added: Sign a zip (no documentation on this, it’s a required future feature)
- Added: Field trial to app installer
- Added: Jbed to app installer
- Added: Quick office to app installer
- Added: Teeter to app installer
- Added: IMPlugins to push with “IM” in the app installer (required to use IM app on Fresh 1.1)
- Added Navigator to app installer
- Added Location Service to app installer
- Modified: Heavily modified code throughout the entire application to allow it to run faster and more accurately. This is the biggest part of the 0.2 release. These changes are reflected through every single utility in the kitchen, including the auto-rooter.
- Modified: Changed a number of the message box pop-ups to only show the first time you use that utility and then not again.
- Fixed: Backup and delete texts was not pulling to \backup\ folder
- Fixed: Backup and delete dictionary was not pulling to \backup\ folder
- Removed: Clear theme (I like this theme but it was 15mb… way too big to be included as an example)

Hey flipz, love your work man, however i can seem to get the auto-rooter in the kitchen to work on my setup. I run the help tool and everything checks out fine, when i try and autoroot with google and even without the google button clicked i continue to get :Failed to push properly. I have USB debugging checked, also all drivers appear to be installed as the help tool shows all check marks. I am running windows XP home and installed HTC Sync manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Java isn’t required in the pre-kitchen, and the full version will help you get it working if it fails. Nothing for you to worry about.

Hey, I recently rooted and flashed my phone with fresh…everything works great, except that I was able to change my theme only once. I am currently using the brocks theme, I tried to use kitchen to change it to defresh lastnight, and it said the process completed, but the theme is still brocks. Is there something im not doing?

I tried to install but I get an error No Signature 86 files), Verification failed. This is the first instance where I have gotten this error when trying to flash.

Just to clarify, does Pre-Kitchen 0.2 work with the 2.1 beta? Thx, and great work!

Some pieces and parts will (clear cache, reboot, push/full a file, small things like that) but the big parts won’t.

Been trying to root my Hero all day but keep getting the message “unable to locate adb/help.bat’ Any ideas what’s causing this?
For some reason your computer is having trouble creating the file, or accessing it once it’s there.
Will you go to c:\folder-with-kitchen\adb\ and tell me if there are any .bat files there?

I was using the kitchen just fine on another laptop, but now i’m using a new laptop with windows 7, and it keeps showing an “x” for JAVA, and for REMOUNT. I’ve tried a couple of things but it refuses to work.
What am i missing?
x for java is safe to ignore in the current version of the kitchen.
x for remount means you are using a stock rom.

flipz – This $hit is the BEST kitchen Ive EVER seen. It took so many steps before this prog was around and I don’t know how you do it. Three BIG THUMBS UP flipz (yes THREE!!)

I need help. I rooted my Sprint Hero and all seemed to go well. The first reboot got me into the “Android System Recovery” where I performed a nandroid backup and proceeded to repartitioned my SDCARD and move all APPS to SD.
However, once i reboot out of this mode and the phone apps load, i can make and receive phone calls but all my applications do not work. In fact, on reboot, I get a force close message for each app on the phone.
I now decided to do a restore after rebooting into recovery mode only to get the message “Error: run ‘nandroid-mobile.shrestore’ via adb!
What is adb and how do I perform this crucial step? By the way, this is my wife’s phone and I’d like to stay married
Thanks,
Rasheed

I (nor Flipz) recommends using the apps2sd. I think you should just move the apps back into the phone from the card, and then reformat the card to eliminate the ext2 or 3 partition (since it’s automatic in the fresh rom to use apps2sd if that partion is there).
You might have to just install all the apps one by one through the market actually. I’ve never used apps2sd myself, so I’m only guessing this will work.
In order to use apps2sd you only need to make the partitions in the recovery menu. Once you reboot your phone fresh rom will automatically move everything for you. Just be aware that if anything happens to your sdcard you will experience what you are experiencing now. And if you are using a slower sdcard then your apps will run slower.

flipz,
Thanks so much for your time you put into pre-kitchen. I am trying to uninstall some of Sprint’s bloatware programs. I rooted my phone via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
and should be good to go. However, when I try to uninstall Sprint’s programs via kitchen, the cmd prompt output says that it can’t delete because it is a read-only file system. My phone then reboots, and kitchen says that the programs have been deleted successfully (however I can go right to my phone and see that they are not).
What am I doing wrong?

That’s indicating that you are still using a stock rom. The kitchen is designed to be used on fresh rom.
