Download: Fresh Kitchen 1.0.5
Geek For Me is proud to release:
Fresh Kitchen 1.0.5 by flipz
After months of working on the kitchen I am finally ready to release it to the public!
Info:
- Started as a batch file that only uninstalled applications way back in November
- Quickly grew to 550 lines of code and was made in to a GUI which was released in November
- Since then I have been making it bigger and badder. It is now nearly 5000 lines of code!
Features:
- Cook your own custom rom based on Fresh Rom’s Android 1.5 base
- WILL NOT officially support Android 2.1 until we get our final release from Sprint
- Auto-root your Sprint HTC Hero
- Update RA
- Modify Fresh Rom 1.x to suit your needs
- Backup and restore texts, custom dictionary, or scenes
- Install a lock screen, boot screen, or any other theme
- Push or pull any file to or from your phone
- Add or remove any applications
- MUCH MORE!
Will this work on other phones?
Officially no. And I don't plan on adding support for other phones because it would be impossible for me to do without owning the phone. However I do plan on owning an Evo once that comes out so you can expect support for it once it's rooted. :)
When will it work for Android 2.1?
Once Sprint makes our 2.1 official I will integrate it in to the kitchen.
It is only designed and tested for fresh rom. It doesn't mean it won't work, but that's the only one it's guaranteed to work for.
The information on tab 1 of the kitchen will not populate
You probably have HTC Sync running in the background on your computer. Make sure to close it out.
Everything looks out of alignment in the app. It looks nothing like in your screen shots or video.
I used the font Century Gothic when I designed the kitchen, thinking it was a stock font. As it turns out it comes with Office, not with Windows. So if you don't have Office you don't have the right there, therefore things don't show up properly for you.
If you have any questions on using the kitchen then please watch the how to video. I have answered basically every question that you could ask in it!! I had to split it in to two parts because youtube limits submitted videos to 10 minutes.
If you are going to report an issue or a bug then you must give me a pastebin of the debug output (the video shows you how!) and a screen shot if it’s relevant. If you post saying something isn’t working and you don’t provide me with those things then I can’t help.

Using the tool to push it actually won’t work because within the kitchen it’s not a full theme. The kitchen takes what files it needs from the core files, what it needs from the theme, and makes a proper apk out of them. So pushing just the theme to your phone wouldn’t do it (or using the theme installer, same thing. It has to be done through cooking a rom only).
If you don’t mind go ahead and cook another rom up but this time have the debugger turned on (it’s enabled in the help tab) and if the same issue happens again after you flash it, then copy/paste me your log to pastebin.
Thanks.

Also, the kitchen wasn’t properly rebooting in RA… that’s why you see it twice at the bottom. I ended up manually booting into the RA and flashing the ROM. Still no little bar thing in the background, just have clock only.

I did one more flash for fun, and still have the problem. I wanted to try out the espresso call bar thing, so I figured I’d run another debug on it.
Still no Transparent-flipz…
Are there any work-arounds to get this working? I’m still super new to all of this, so I REALLY appreciate your help. I’m glad developers like you exist

I used the autorooter, got into the green & black menu, created a nandroid backup then rebooted
I then cooked a rom then rebooted, when I went to zip it was nowhere to be found, did I miss a step somewhere?

You won’t want to return to stock if you want to keep your phone rooted. But yes new roms based on the official 2.1 will be released once it comes out.
And is the kitchen warning you that htc sync is running? Because if it is then it’s installed on your computer. It checks for it actively running in memory.

It is .net but it definitely won’t work with mono. I ran their test and it failed the background processes which is what the kitchen relies on. I spent a day or two playing with mono to see about making the switch so that I could easily port to linux and mac but I found the support to be poor. I had an issue right off the bat that was preventing me from compiling for linux. It kept saying file not found yet nothing in their app would tell me what file it was. I googled the exact error and found plenty others all asking for help with it, all of which went unanswered. I couldn’t risk diving in to using an IDE that I couldn’t get support for if I ran in to an issue or needed to add a feature.

So, I jumped in and did it after finding an app that would export all of my contacts into a file that I could then import into Gmail. Everything so far has gone great, except for one thing:
When I installed the lockscreen, I chose the “Transparent-flipz” when I got there. However, I ended up with “Clock_Only-flipz” when I booted up. I thought that maybe I messed something up, so I went into the tools and tried pushing the one I wanted again, but I still end up with the clock only. The problem with the clock only screen is that it’s hard to tell if it is locked, especially when you leave an application that is mostly white running… I’ve also tried completely reflashing with no success. Any ideas?
