Download: Fresh Rom 2.1.1 | Fixed accelerometer
Geek 4 Me is proud to release:
Fresh Rom 2.1.1 by flipz
NOTE: A lot of the changes / tweaks / fixes / modifications that were done by myself and jschisurf will need to be redone. While we could likely just drop them in and have them work, there is a chance that the code on some of the affected files has changed which means we would revert back to old files by just dropping it in. So be patient as the new mods roll in.
This includes the broken vanilla lock screen, livewallpapers in rosie, etc.
NOTE 2: It’s coming up a couple times so I’ll answer it here. Fresh Rom = stable, HTC-based rom. Fresh Toast = dev/experimental rom that includes overclocking and all the fun goodies that come with a custom kernel. They are 2 separate roms.
BASE: RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release
Changes / features:
- Based on the official Sprint RUU.
- Auto apps2sd 2.7 beta 7 custom by tkirton. This one will not move your cache to sd at my request (tkirton built it this way for me). But you can turn on cache2sd if you want.
- Updated google maps to v4.2.1 with “Nav” link in the app drawer and multi-touch.
- All protected apps in market
- Live wallpapers (launcher2 only. Not in Rosie.)
- Espresso bottom bar by flipz
- Full color HTC sliders by flipz
- flash_image for flashing RA
- Nexus Launcher2
- Updated estrongs file explorer to v1.3.12
- Updated market to v1713
- Updated facebook to v1.2
- Quickboot works… for those who use it!
- Removed:
- Amazon mp3
- GSD (HTC test program that was draining battery)
- HTC Footprints
- HTC Navigation Panel
- HTC Ringtone trimmer
- HTC Stocks
- Quick Office
- Learn more
- pdf viewer
- Sprint navigator
- Sprint Nascar
- Sprint NFL
- Sprint TV
- Teeter
- DOWNLOAD REMOVED APKS HERE: http://geekfor.me/downloads/fresh21removedapks If you use Fresh Kitchen 1.0.5 you can copy them to your My Apk’s folder and use the app installer to install them.
- Added:
- Busy box
- Super User
- Wifi tether 1.6 (downgraded due to DHCP/NAT issues)
What to expect / how to flash it / READ THIS :
- Download and copy the zip to the root of your sdcard
- Reboot to RA and do a data wipe / factory reset (REQUIRED)
- You may also need to wipe sd:ext if you are having troubles booting.
- If you are running Fresh Toast and ext4 then you’ll need to partition back to ext3 if you want to use apps2sd
- Pick flash zip from sdcard and select fresh-cdma-hero-2.1.zip
- After it finishes flashing reboot. Expect the first boot up to take a while.
- If it freezes during first boot then you were likely using a2sd from another rom. Unfortunately during earlier 2.x roms there were a few versions of a2sd floating around and now that is going to cause problems. If this happens to you (and you already did a factory reset like you should have) then you will need to boot in to RA and go to wipe and then Wipe SD:Ext Partition. This will delete all apps off your sdcard. You will want to reflash the rom if you have to do this or else you will be missing some apps from the rom.
- When the phone boots and comes to the user setup screen I would recommend syncing your google account right away. I noticed an old bug creep back in where it gets stuck during sync. This seems to be avoided by adding your google account during setup.
Update: Fresh Rom 2.1 had a broken accelerometer. Sorry guys! Fixed now in 2.1.1.

Ignore the Ev icon in some of those screenshots, they are from the last release. :) It looks like the one in the last screenshot.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ROOT! A root process for this official sprint ROM has not yet been developed. Only install this if you dont care about root and want to go back to the official ROM. Fresh 2.1 is based off of this ROM, therefore it would probably be a step down to do so.

The main difference between the 2 ROMs is the kernel. The Fresh kernel is the official HTC one, while Fresh Toast uses Toast’s kernel, which allows for overclocking. Until recently this required you to sacrifice you camera, but not anymore. Fresh Toast is considered a more experimental build, while the Fresh ROM is probably the closest to the official Sprint release as you will find. DO NOT use setCpu or OC widget with Fresh ROM as it will most likely result in underclocking, which is no fun.

Whoa.. not sure what happened w/the 1st post.. lol. Anyways, thanks so much for all your hard work!! I’m loving Android 2.1.. I do have 2 questions though…
1.) The biggest difference I’ve noticed from 2.0d to 2.1.1 is the absence of the voice input button for all the text blanks.. am I missing something, or did the voice input function get removed from text blanks??
2.) This is more of a side-note question.. I’ve been reading some VERY GOOD things about android 2.2 — namely, 450% performance boost in computing power.. and of course flash 10.1 support!! Is there any word on how soon you folks might be getting ahold of a copy to begin porting it for our precious CDMA Heros?
Thanks!

1) The XDA keyboard was left out on purpose because Flipz was having FC problems. The problem has since been resolved. You should be able to install this keyboard manually and it will be included in all future releases.
From Flipz:
This was caused by a driver that wasn’t installing properly with the keyboard when it was included with the rom. It worked when you installed it manually but not on it’s own. I have extracted that driver and will now be able to include it in future versions.2) HTC has announced that they expect to release 2.2 to most of their devices by the end of the year, so I expect that it is just a mater of time. FYI, that 450% increase is mostly caused by enabling JIT by default.

This is probably by design. Flipz has attributed eventual slowdown to task killers disrupting the android application lifecycle.

Actually, Autokiller isn’t really a task killer. It just lets you manipulate the built-in thresholds used by the OS. A task killer runs actively, which is why it slows your phone down.
You technically shouldn’t need Autokiller, but if you want your phone to kill background apps more (or less) aggressively, you can install it.

Warren,
2.2 is still quite a ways from our phone, let alone any of the others. if your running Fresh Toast, there is very beta rom available on xda-developers site ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685341 ) that is kind of a mash-up of the two. It will work on our phones but too many things don’t work. Its considered a play ROM…use at your own risk.

I have had this problem twice in the last two days.
My phone will lose internet connection, I can still make calls. One time I just turned on and off Mobile Connections and it worked. The next time Mobile Connections was stuck on “connecting” and I rebooted the phone and it worked.
Anyone else have this issue?

I was wondering. I bought my hero a few months ago and I have had Zero luck getting Fresh 2.1.1 to boot. I have wiped and partitioned and formatted and everything I can possibly think of and I can’t get Fresh Rom 2.1.1 to go past the HTC Screen. I don’t see dancing robots or anything other than HTC and I have let it sit for about 30 min. Is there anything else I can try. I wasn’t sure if it had something to do with having a newer model or base band on my phone and what not.

I was just wondering what the main differences were between Fresh 2.1.1. and 2.1.2. I installed 2.1.2, and love it so far. I like the Live Wallpapers in Rosie, but I read that 2.1.1 has more memory free than 2.1.2. Does this really make a lot of difference in the speed?
Also, I was wondering if anyone has a way of shutting off the trackball and bottom button lights. I noticed that since 2.1 came out, they never go off anymore like they did in 1.5, like after 15 sec of not being touched.
Is there some way I can mod a file in the phone to set a timeout for it, or turn it off altogether? I downloaded LEDs HACK from the market, but it doesn’t seem to work, but… Doesn’t that mean there IS some way to shut them off?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Not sure if I should consider this a bug or an added benefit… First off, thanks Flipz for all you’ve done and continue to do with your bud’s for the Android Community in general, and specifically to us HTC/Sprint people… Been running Fresh 2.1.1 since release and loving it on the Hero, tried a few others but settled on Fresh back on one of the 2.0 versions and stuck with it…. I keep the phone plugged into USB port almost constantly, and always select ‘charge only’ at pop-up and change as needed to access SD card. Last couple of days, seems that even though I select charge only and the phone says its in charge only mode, the SD card is still getting mounted, auto-play pops on the comp and SD is undetected by phone/Astro/eStrong …. any ideas out there?? may just be my time to load up and flash 2.1.2 see if it still happens. Never seen anybody else talk about this in any of the forums I follow so I figured I’d mention it here…
