Download: CDMA Hero Android 2.1 v1.5 Eclair [BETA]

This thread started out as a direct port of 2.1 v1.0 from alldroid.org that I slightly modified to allow it to flash successfully on the CDMA Sprint Hero. Since then progress was a little slow in getting different things working. However over the weekend while I was on vacation (go figure) progress absolutely exploded. Major thanks to toastcfh and quietcblongs (he got data working which was really a stalling point!) Please thank those guys as they did the work.

The current build is based on Lox and Behnaam’s GSM 2.1 v1.5.

Works:

Bluetooth
Make and receive phone calls
Texts
Data (thanks quietcblongs)
Market (protected apps not showing)
Identifies properly as Sprint network
Signal meter
GPS

Works in test builds (meaning it won’t work from the download publicly available here) :

Nothing

Doesn’t work (in the version that you download here) :

Accelerometer
Camera
Visual voicemail

How to flash it:

Boot in to recovery and create a nandroid backup
Use the menu item “Wipe data/factory reset” (yes, a restore is required)
Apply it like a normal update.zip — be patient. The first boot will take a while.

All general warnings apply when flashing this rom, just like any other.

After you have installed the update above you can check out this 11mb update (no wipe required). It includes:

slideme app store
maps 3.3.1
wifi teather (doesnt work right now)
widgets fixed
mount usb app
facebook app

wait… clarify this for me, link that you have on main page is the one with all the tweaks already because it’s kinda contradicting itself lol.

Also one more thing, if my phone is rooted, will this mess up that status?

  The first link is the 100mb full rom. The second link is the 11mb update that includes the extra apps.

BTW, how did you guys come up with the kernel?
Flipz didn’t you say that the kernel was the main issue and because of it the project couldn’t continue?

    I had my phone rooted and had the fresh rom on it. i updated my phone to the 2.1 v1.5 and I tried to do the app. update and it my bootloader had disapeared. all i could do was wipe my data.

Obviously you have to take a break soon flip but I was wondering if a rosie-less Hero Rom was still potentially in the cards at some point in the future?

I’ll post here my experience with rom here.

This rom is pretty slick but you can tell it’s still on beta stage due to constant force closes…

One thing that I would like to do is to change temperature to Fahrenheit… and also, can’t figure out how to sync the phone even when I logged on to market place like the direction…

Also data speed is no where near fresh 1.0

  Yes you can. I have done it many times. I play around with the 2.1 update at night. And run Fresh 1.0 During the day.

ugh my nand backup got deleted…how do i revert to fresh rom 1.0 without it?

  You could try flashing fresh 1.0 right on top of it. You would need to do a factory wipe first through the recovery menu just like when you flashed 2.1.
  
  If that doesn’t work (it should) then you’ll need to do stock RUU and start back over.

Any ideas on a salvaging a brick ? Im not sure what I did wrong, but now I can’t get anything to happen outside of the amber light coming on when it is charging. Haven’t been able to fast boot, get back to nandroid, or anything

  You’ve tried holding volume down while powering it on, and/or holding home while powering it on? Does it vibrate when you power it on?

    I have tried every magic keystroke I could find online to no avail. I don’t even get a vibration when it turns on, the charge indicator just turns off.
    
    I was following a presentation in a meeting and flashing the phone at the same time. It should have registered that the unzip/flash took little to no time at all to run. Given that, I probably should have restored my backup and tried again, but instead I just rebooted.

If you update to HERO21 Community v1.7 base (need to have A2SD, if I’m going to be hoping back & for with builds) & get the Camera working, I will be definitely testing.

Thanks for the ROMS they are the best!! I know I asked about this before but when I do a wipe to install this rom (or any other 2.x rom) will I have to redo/reinstall any setting/apps or anything else when I want to flash back to Fresh 1.

  Correct me if I’m wrong Flipz, but I think I read this over at XDA. You won’t have to reinstall anything cuz you’d be running a backup. The correct procedure is:
  
  1. Nandroid backup
  2. Wipe
  3. Flash 2.1
  4. Wipe
  5. Flash 1.0
  6. Restore backup
  
  Am I correct?

  Just make a Nand backup of your Fresh setup & when you want to go back, just restore the Nand of Fresh.
