Known issues:

If you came from a fresh install rather than an update, the standard clock&weather widget that is on the home page will not pull your location automatically. More information coming soon. Current workaround is to delete it, then add it back and actually pick your location. Don’t select “current location.” More info and fix here.
Flash player is not working in the browser. More info and fix here.

RELEASE NOTES (changes from 1.0 to 1.1) :

The most noticeable change that people will see is the work that is being done to port Espresso’s Rosie over to Fresh ROM. I really like the look of the new Rosie and therefore am putting it in here. If you don’t like it never fear. I can assure you that someone will put together a standard rosie theme that will put you back to all green. The pre-kitchen is 100% compatible with this rom. You will see that some parts of the rom are blue while some are green. This is exactly how the Espresso dump is. In fact the espresso dump is even worse! But freshlyill is working hard to spread it out to more applications. We’ll post an update when it’s ready.

Added: ES File Explorer 1.2.5.1 (i’m liking it a lot more than astro)

Updated: wifi tether from 1.6 pre-3 to 1.6 final
Updated: busybox to remove color codes (thanks to obelisk, I didn’t know this existed)

Modified: removed the “lock” image from the left screen and left it totally blank (as voted on here. if the lock screen is still showing your old wallpaper then there is a tool in the pre-kitchen to clear the cache).

Removed: HTC location manager (for me this has seemed to resolve our phone lag caused by location service. It dramtically cuts down on the heartbeats. but my phone is generally rebooted multiple times per day so only time will tell if this works)
Removed: .bats in /system/app (accidentally left them in from my deodexing)
Removed: astro file manager (keep in mind you will need to uninstall it. I don’t want to force remove it because those people that still use it)
Removed: field trial
Removed: jbed
Removed: learn more (i did this a while ago, not sure when it got back in. lol)
Removed: sprint app updated
Removed: sdsa
Removed: quick office
Removed: html viewer
Removed: im plugins

  It’s windows only. You may have success with boot camp, parallels, or wine bottler but I can’t confirm any of them.

I rooted my hero now im trying install the fresh rom and when i go to boot using the lower volume and power button its take me to a recovery screen with three androids on skateboards. Any clue where to go now?

  Press the home button to get in to the recovery menu from the 3 andriods.
  
  The alternate options to get there are:
  
  1) Boot it holding home instead of volume down
  or
  2) There is a reboot option built in to the kitchen that will take you straight there

Question for ya Flipz. I’m using this rom and I only have about 20mb of internal memory left because I have a good amount of apps on it. Is this rom apps2sd compatible and do are there any pros or cons to using it? Will it make my phone any faster or do I risk ruining my memory card or anything?

  Yes it is compatible. Just create the partitions in RA and it will automatically take care of everything for you. The risk you run is burning out the sdcard because of constant read-writes, FC’s and a possible restore needed if your sd card is removed, and it can/will run slower. But the trade off of course is more space.

    The clock and weather widget never got deleted. If it’s not showing in your list of widgets (it’s under htc < clocks) then you have something else going on.

  You can find the mp3 in /system/media/bootscreen. I suppose you could pull it out of there and drop it in to your notifications folder and then use it.

Hi there. Have been using your ROMs since the beginning, though this is the first time I’ve been compelled to ask a question.

I’ve noticed since the 1.1 update my battery life has been shorter than normal and my up time, has been higher (though not absurdly so – in the 15-20% range overnight and 30-40% during normal daily usage. I haven’t installed any apps that would seem like they should take a ton of CPU usage.

I have installed Mobile Defense which seems to run as a hidden process.

I guess I have a 2-part question:

1) Have you heard about any post-1.1 battery issues and

2) Is there any way to see if there are any other hidden processes running to see if this is what is killing battery (perhaps a virus?)

  Other than 1 or 2 people mentioning it (which is going to happen) there have been no reports of battery issues. I myself can go 2-3 days without plugging it in (that’s my estimate at least because I never do). I have actually been wanting to write an article on uptime and explain it a little bit but it keeps getting pushed down my list. I’ll try and get that done.
  
  As far as seeing all processes on the phone, you can try looking via the debugger included in the sdk. Just run c:\folder-with-sdk\tools\ddms.bat .

Im using the recovery 1.2.3 and i only can create one restore point which i created as soon as i rooted my hero with no rom.. So if i wanted to try a different ROM i would have to only go back to that recovery point right? and since then i have also downloaded a few apps, if i did try another ROM and decided to go back to fresh 1.1 and did a recovery to get back, would my apps and anthing else i added after the recovery delete?

  You can copy off the /nandroid/ folder to your computer so that you can have multiple backups. But really you should just upgrade to 1.5.2 because it will allow you to have multiples. Once you do that you can try out anything you want and then back restore back to any point.

      You can rename them to anything you want so that you know what they are. But when you want to use one you’ll have to rename it back to “nandroid” because that’s what it’ll be looking for.

  It’s an application that pops up and asks if it’s ok that an application accesses root. Think of it kind of like user account control for windows, accept that you can tell it to always allow a certain app. It’s a way to prevent malicious programs from accessing root.

when i did try 1.5.2 it didnt let me make restore points it kept saying there was an error so i had to do a sprint ruu and went back to 1.2.3.

this but, I read in xda. that you said even thou
you included app2sd, you didn’t recommended
and after reading what you wrote I was even more confused, because everybody keeps talking in all the forums about if you root you GOT TO GET a class 6 card. Now what i would like to know is since I’m new to rooting and all,(witch by the way my first rom is fresh 1.1) LOVE IT. anyways so no matter how many apps i install this rom will preform the same way (speed,responsiveness) without the need to run apps of the card? Also if I decided to give it a try just to see for myself how do i do it , iw it a simple process? againThanks for comming up with such a “FRESH” rom.

Installed the new rom and it went smooth, as can be expected! I’m immediately getting a force close notification on my CNN news app though. I haven’t looked into it at all though. Maybe there’s an update for it. Didn’t have this issue on Fresh 1.0. Off to play! Thanks once again!

This is not at all a big deal and I love the blue theme going on, but I found a spot that was missed. When using the stock messenger app in landscape mode when you click the area to enter text it is green not blue like in portrait or regular. Just FYI for the whole theme going on. Great work though. You were my first ROM. Thank you very much for this ROM!

Hey!

I wanted to thank you for a great ROM. I only have one issue. I get a force close error when I try to record audio in the stock messaging app. If i go to attach>create>record audio, com.android.mms is killed. Do you know of a workaround for this? I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else.

  My assumption is it uses the sound recorder app which has been removed. You can use the kitchen to add it back in.

Hey Flipz any idea why Titanium Backup wouldn’t work with your rom? I tried it running one of Modaco’s roms and it works fine but I like your rom more but I would really like to be able to use that program. Titanium backup requires busybox but your rom also has that right? Any ideas? Would really appreciate the help!

Flipz, here’s a strange one for ya. For some reason, after I installed Fresh Rom 1.1, when I press the power button the phone won’t go to black. If I hold it down, I can power it off, but, if I do a quick press, nothing happens. Any ideas? This will certainly help drain battery power.

  If you’re the only one experiencing it then it’s something with your setup.
  
  If you have any power saving apps or anything that controls the screen then you can try uninstalling it. If that doesn’t work then you can try the extreme and do a data wipe.

It doesn’t give me any error specifically but when I access the program it isn’t able to read any of my apps that are installed and it stays blank on the backup and explore tab. Funny thing is if I flash to Modaco’s new 2.2 rom it works. Any idea why that may be? Yours seems faster so I would prefer to use yours! Trying to figure this out is annoying the crap outta me so I figured I would ask for your help!

Any guess what happened to the Bluetooth switch that came with HTC hero cdma. I did a clean install of 1.5.6? And then flashed Fresh. Now those icons are gone.(the grey ones) Can’t find any in market that show status on icon.
Facebook is another app that seems to be missing from a fresh install of 1.5.6
Is 1.5.6 direct from HTC or from asprint

  Are you talking about the settings icons that allow you to turn the radios on and off? They are definitely there. They’re under add widget < htc widget < settings. If you aren’t seeing them then try just flashing fresh on top of itself.

Hey, Flipz! I have a small request: a version of Fresh 1.1 with the 2.1 icons. Doing it by myself I either get force closures (flashing a .zip update someone else made) or the icons come up grainy (pushing each individual icon manually). I, and I’m sure many others, would very much appreciate it! A donation is on the way… been a little low on cash.

Does removing these landscape files mean that I won’t be able to use the app in landscape mode?

Any app that requires me to use the virtual keyboard I’ll have to use in landscape mode. my hands are too big for the keyboard in portrait mode.

  No because our phone doesn’t actually support landscape in any of those. That’s the thing… it had landscape files taking up a bunch of space, but they don’t actually support rotate yet.
