Download: Android 2.2 (FroYo) for Evo
This is a copy of Android 2.2 (FroYo) that has been built to work with your HTC Evo 4g. All credit goes to toastcfh for this, and to maejrep for his help. You will need to root your Evo in order to be able to flash this. This is to be considered a dev rom… proof of concept only. It likely will not be updated or maintained for the time being. It’s for show only!
What doesn’t work:
- Cameras
- 4g
- Mms

No I don’t have my Evo yet (tomorrow!) just some people (like maejrep) that went to I/O and got one were able to test.
My main development focus will be switching to the Evo, but not until I wrap things up with the Hero (like finish the 2.1 kitchen). No worries guys, I’m not ditching you.

I *DO* want to get the EVO, but unfortunately, being one of the “normal” people who have a kid and live paycheck to paycheck, that won’t be happening til the end of this year / beginning of next year.
So I’ll be sticking with my trusty Hero.
BTW, I’ve heard some rather disturbing reports that the battery life of the EVO is even WORSE than the Hero’s.. which canNOT be good at all. I have to charge my Hero once every 24 hours.. and that’s with LIGHT use. If it’s a call / app – heavy sort of day, I’m lucky if I can get 4-6 hours of use out of one charge!!
Can anyone confirm / deny the short battery life of the EVO?

The default settings on the EVO are to update most apps every 2-4 hours. This kills the battery life. First day I had my EVO I left the settings alone, and it died fairly quickly. Yesterday I changed most of the settings to update at a more reasonable rate (facebook, once a day, who needs updates every 2 hours?).
With light use, I made it about 14hr 45 min and still had some battery left. I think that most of the issues are Sense related (Sense is nice, but poor implementation…)
Waiting for a more stable Froyo build then will root and flash. Can anyone with Froyo confirm better battery life? I am assuming that it will be phenomenal without Sense. Thanks for the hard work DEV’s!

Yes, you will have to run the Stock RUU (find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835 ), this will take your phone back to its original state, as if you had just bought it. This will delete everything on your phone so make sure you create a backup. You could also keep your root and just flash a 2.1 ROM (Stock). I recommend DamageControl 3.2.1 which you can find at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700649 or fresh 0.3 which is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700448

The battery life is very short on the EVO , but downloading apps like ultimate juice extend battery life to around 8 hrs with plenty of usage . Also good old fashioned task killers do help too . I will tell everyone out there thats on the fence , I had the HTC HD2 with tmobile and ended my contract for the EVO and it was the greatest move I have ever made and I love the EVO .
