Download: CDMA Hero App Installer v2.0

More than anything else I receive questions on how to put a stock application back on the phone. Fresh ROM has removed a number of apps in order to free up space and memory, but a lot of people have trouble figuring out how to put them back on the phone. Here is a very easy way on how to do it.

I spent a better part of the day today converting v1.0 of this app from a 550 line batch script to a nice little GUI. If you can’t figure this out then it might be best that you don’t root your phone. This app is the first step on the way to a full on visual kitchen for Android, but it may be a while before that becomes a reality. Right now this is really only designed to push back the stock applications that came with the CDMA Hero but were removed in Fresh ROM. However if you look around a little bit you will find a secret menu that lets you push whatever apk/odex you want (will be pushed to /system/app).

I have also added a button to clear your cache. This is a nifty little trick that is similar to clearing your temp and prefetch folders in Windows. It can help fix random issues like programs displaying wrong version numbers, an icon that isn’t working after a rom flash (the voicemail icon is notorious for this) or any other little issues that just appeared.

As always, please report any known issues. This is another 4am release so there’s bound to be mistakes. The only issue I know about so far is that after closing it in Windows 7 I get a dialogue pop-up saying that CDMA Hero App Installer may not have installed properly (it thinks the program should be installed rather than just ran). I’m looking in to the issue but right now it’s just a minor annoyance and doesn’t affect anything.

Using it:

Download the file below and extract it anywhere you want
Double click CDMAHeroAppInstaller2.exe
Profit…

This is specifically designed for Fresh ROM 0.6 and above, but should work on other roms.

Troubleshooting:

Make sure USB debugging is turned on.
- Settings < Applications < Development < USB Debugging
Check device manager to make sure your phone’s driver is actually installed and you don’t have missing drivers.
Make sure you are on Fresh ROM 0.6 or higher.

The app installer will allow you to install the following 1.56 (Sprint MR) applications:

Peep and widgets
Footprints and widgets
Sound recorder
Sprint NFL
Sprint Nascar
Sprint TV and widgets
Stocks and widgets
Voice dialer
IM
Ringtone trimmer
Any apk/odex you want to /system/app with the super secret hidden menu

Any progress on this app removing the stock apps as well?
That would be awesome.. I just downgraded from 2.1 v1.5 back to Fresh 1.0 and all of the stock apps are back. I don’t remember when they were removed, and I’d like to avoid doing it all manually through ADB Shell if possible.

Thanks for all of the work that you’ve done so far! I love all of the ROMs that you’ve pushed out, and I’m incredibly impressed how fast you guys are able to do so. Not to mention all of these great utilities as well!

However, I’m having a slight problem. I’m not too familiar with Windows, so I’m not sure how to fix this error that pops up whenever I try to launch the program. The error says “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.” I’ve gotten similar errors on a couple other applications that I’ve tried to run as well. For the record, I’m running XP SP3 in a virtual machine, and your command line utility works just fine. I’m curious as to why this is happening, and I’d like to be able to clear my phone’s cache (not sure how to do it otherwise). Thanks!

  It happens as soon as you launch the program? Are you able to click on details and copy the full error log? If it’s very long you can go to pastebin.com and put it on there.
  
  It’s possible that you are having .net framework errors on your computer. Check windowsupdate.com and make sure you are up to date with .net.

    You were right; I didn’t have all of the updates. I updated the other day, but it turns out that the pack I got didn’t include .NET updates. I’ve got it working just fine now! Thanks for your help!

  It is included in the next version of the kitchen. Alternatively I do have a download available (check the downloads section) that includes the original apps I removed. You can download that pack and then push amazonmp3.apk back to your phone using the current kitchen.
