The only changes from stock are:

• Made in to an update.zip format so that you can flash it, and an update script was created
• Added superuser, busybox, apps2sd, and the necessary mods to the ramdisk to make them all work

Other than that it’s untouched. This is so that others can use this same base for whatever purpose that they want. This is not any type of rom that I’ll be maintaining or supporting, that’s what Fresh Evo is.

Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 for your Sprint Evo 4g

Featuring a brand new OTA that hasn’t been released yet.

Base: Supersonic 3.28.651.1

This update has proven to have superior battery life and an improved streaming audio experience. I am in the process of uploading a stock rooted copy of this build, I will post it when it’s ready.

• Based on a brand new Sprint OTA that hasn’t been released yet (3.28.651.1)
• Updated stagefright audio framework for improved streaming audio.
  • This DOES have the side effect of creating issues with hulu (which isn’t technically official for the Android anyways) as reported here. I’m working on a patch to rollback to the previous version of stagefright for those who just prefer to have hulu working. It will be on Fresh Updater once I get a chance to do it and test it.
• New kernel by HTC (g3a8614e)
  • This kernel has been showing some amazing battery life. It is “stock” so it won’t give you overclocking however both myself and freshlyill have gone 1.5 days without charging under normal/medium use.
• Unlike my previous roms I have not resigned this rom so a full data wipe is required.
  • The Evo is still being actively developed by HTC and Sprint which means there are new updates coming out on a fairly regular basis. My resigning the rom allows for extra modifications to be able to be made and allows for new updates without doing a data wipe however ont he flip side it means that I have to resign any new updates from HTC/Sprint before you can use them. For the time being I have decided to put this rom back to HTC’s signature so that as new updates are released on the market by Google (like the new voice search and google maps) or by Sprint (like the new VVM) or by HTC (like the new widgets) then you can get them without having to wait on me to release them.
• Removed the extra HTC widgets being included by default because this rom is no longer re-signed so you can install them yourself through add widgets.

Donors: If you downloaded and installed this rom already then you may notice that the download here has a different md5 but the same file version. The ONLY changes that changed were a couple tweaks to my update script, and I fixed the Fresh Updater/Reboot bug posted here. I chose to not make a new version number and force people to update just for that. There is already a patch on fresh updater to fix it.

New to 3.2: You will see a patch in Fresh Updater that addresses the issue I mentioned above. You do not need to get that patch as yours is already fixed. However because I didn’t change the version numbers, you’ll still see it.

Install Notes: This update definitely requires a data wipe for any current Fresh users because it’s not resigned. You must wipe! If you are coming from another rom (that hasn’t been resigned) then a data wipe may not be required. With that said… some users are reporting that they were able to flash without wiping.

Fair warning: if you ask me something that is already answered in the forum, the change log, or these release notes, then I’m going to ignore it. Sorry.

NOTE: Remember that Fresh Hero is considered a stable every day rom, and Fresh Toast is a dev rom that may have issues. Also (in case there is confusion) Fresh Hero is for the Hero and Fresh Evo for the Evo. But I think that’s self explanatory.

Also FYI the phone may freeze on the very first boot at the lockscreen, or it may get to the lockscreen and then reboot one more time. This should only happen on the very first boot after flashing the rom (if it happens at all).

• Download and copy the zip to the root of your sdcard
• Reboot to RA and do a data wipe / factory reset (REQUIRED)
• You may also need to wipe sd:ext if you are having troubles booting.
• If you are running Fresh Toast and ext4 then you’ll need to partition back to ext3 if you want to use apps2sd
• Pick flash zip from sdcard and select fresh-hero*.zip
• After it finishes flashing reboot. Expect the first boot up to take a while.
• If it boot loops over and over (you keep hearing the startup sound) then you didn’t wipe everything.
• When the phone boots and comes to the user setup screen I would recommend syncing your google account right away. I noticed an old bug creep back in where it gets stuck during sync. This seems to be avoided by adding your google account during setup.
• The more social networking stuff you have setup (Facebook, twitter, friendstream, etc) the less battery life you will get. These programs do not have a “push” function and work by checking every single one of your contacts to see if they have an update.

DOWNLOAD:

An incremental download (10 mb) is available on Fresh Updater if you are on Fresh Hero 2.3.3. If you are on any other rom then you won’t see it. If you are on another rom or have any issues with the incremental then you can grab the full download.

• 270 degree auto-rotation (you can turn the phone to the right or the left for landscape) — Thanks to Optedoblivion for pointing me in the right direction.
• 11 new Rosie widgets. 7 that are available for our phone and 4 that aren’t. 
  • Profiles, ringtone, battery, call mom, coin flip, daily challenge, dice, notes, quick record, tasks, tip calculator.
  • These are made by HTC and will only work in Rosie.

• HTC_IME Mod High Res v.27 keyboard — This keyboard has a ton of features. I have included this keyboard and the stock one. To change which keyboard you use just do a long press on a text input field.
• All APK’s have been png optimized and zipalign’d
  • png optimize goes through every APK and losslessly compresses the png (picture) files without causing any type of visual change. This provides a smaller apk file size that loads faster. Each APK has then been zipalign’d. From Android’s developer page: zipalign is an archive alignment tool that provides important optimization to Android application (.apk) files. The purpose is to ensure that all uncompressed data starts with a particular alignment relative to the start of the file. Specifically, it causes all uncompressed data within the .apk, such as images or raw files, to be aligned on 4-byte boundaries. This allows all portions to be accessed directly with mmap() even if they contain binary data with alignment restrictions. The benefit is a reduction in the amount of RAM consumed when running the application.
  • While this does free up space on /system it is not done to make free space. It is done purely for a performance gain. Every day use of the phone will go smoother and stock applications will respond faster. The reason this works is because it has reduced the application file size as much as 50%, so they load in to memory faster and run smoother.
  • Additionally all applications in /data/ (even ones you downloaded) will be zipalign’d on boot if they need to be.
  • Not every apk takes png optimization + zip align well. I’ve done it on enough roms that I think I know which ones cause issues now, but if you are getting FC’s on any apps (I can’t test them all) then let me know and I’ll get it resolved. Thanks!

• Wifi Tether 1.6 — This is not the newest version but in my experience it works best on the Hero. If you are getting a FC in wifi tether then it’s because you have another copy of it in /data/ with a different name. Therefore you ended up with two copies. Remove one of them and reboot.

• Added PowerTOP 1.11. From LessWatts.org: Programs can make your [phone] use more power. PowerTOP is a Linux tool that helps you find those programs that are misbehaving while your [phone] is idle. — Compiled by cyanogen.
  • To run PowerTOP just open an adb shell and type:  ”powertop -d”. It will scan for 15 seconds and then print out a report.
    
  • The first section will show you what % of time your phone spent running at what Mhz. Ignore the Mhz in the screenshot above because it’s from my Evo so it will look a little different on the Hero.
  • The next section shows wakeups-from-idle per second. 50-80 would be normal. If you are in that range then you don’t have a problem.
  • The next list is the top causes for wakeups. Compare your list to mine (I only showed the top 3).
  • All the way at the bottom it will have optimizations that can be made to lower power use. These changes can not be made to the rom itself, they must be made to the kernel. While other roms claim they made changes to the kernel, if they are using the stock kernel (if they aren’t over-clockable then they are using the stock kernel) then they didn’t. While there is a kernel source available to us, I have chosen to continue using the stock kernel until our official source is released by HTC for stability reasons.
• I have chosen to NOT include adless browsing in my rom. I used adless browsing in all of my Hero Android 1.5 roms because it actually blocked ads from the browser. In Android 2.1 this functionality stopped working so I stopped including it. It was pointed out to me that while it doesn’t block them in the browser, it does block them in apps (background data). The reason I am choosing to not include this is because as a developer myself, I feel that the authors deserve to get paid for what they do if you want to use their app. If you are choosing to use their free ad-driven application then I don’t want to contribute to people blocking those ads and preventing the dev from getting paid.
• Stock vanilla lock screen has been customized in the following ways:
  • Fixed to work properly by flipz
  • Emergency button showing up after airplane mode fix by flipz
  • Menu-menu to unlock disabled by flipz
  • Clock / Sprint / other misc stuff removed thanks to jschisurf!

The applications marked with a * can be installed in one click by clicking on it in ES, the ones marked with # aren’t included because they don’t need to be reinstalled. The rest you will have to copy them to /system/app. This can be done by issuing the following commands:

2.1.2:

• Entire rom has been de-odexd.
  • An odex file is basically a chunk of source code that has already been extracted from the apk and put on /system/. This is done to speed up the first boot of a rom (you know how your first boot takes a long time… that’s while it is extracting all of these dex files) and also to save space on /data/. Our stock sprint rom comes with this odex files to give you those benefits, however it also prevents us from “hacking” those files and modifying them. This build has taken all those odex files and injected them back in the apk’s. So expect a slower first boot, and more space taken up on /data/, but you get benefits from it such as the vanilla lock screen being fixed and live wallpapers in Rosie.
• XDA‘s custom HTC_IME v.25 (keyboard) has been added back in. This keyboard has a ton of features including voice input. I have included this keyboard and the stock one. To change which keyboard you use just do a long press on a text input field. (1)
• Stock vanilla lock screen has been fixed again! To use it you can remove HtcLockScreen.apk manually or use one of the following fixes by flashing it as an update.zip in recovery.
  • Fix 1 only removes HtcLockScreen
  • Fix 2 removes HtcLockScreen and adds in the vanilla clock. This clock is required if you want to be able to turn off your alarms via the vanilla lock. DO NOT set an alarm in world clock or it will go off infinitely.
  • Fix 3 removes HtcLockScreen, adds in vanilla clock, and deletes HTC’s world clock. Everything still works properly without it.
  • Fix 4 does all of the above but also removes HTC Music and HTC Album and puts in the vanilla Music and Album. This enables all of the buttons at the bottom of the vanilla clock to work.
  • They all wipe dalvik so expect a long reboot
• Upgraded apps2sd to Darktremover 2.7 update 1 by tkirton. By default dalvik-cache is left on data. You can save space on data by typing “a2sd cache” in to an adb shell to have a2sd move your cache to your sdcard, but honestly I don’t recommend it.
• Added live wallpapers back to Rosie. . Keep in mind that you are using lwp “at your own risk.” They may use more battery, they may cause wake issues. And only the lower end ones will work properly. This is not the fix that breaks opengl to allow you to use the more visual ones. Stick with the ones that just draw on the screen (a few are included).
• Changed the phone’s fingerprint from the passion to heroc. This was required to get all apps working before our fingerprint was official and in Google’s servers.

If you are new to Fresh Evo: A full data wipe is required. I recommend doing a full data wipe, then flashing the rom, then flashing the radio, then flashing the wimax radio (if you don’t already have the updated radios). I’ve also had the best luck with Facebook syncing properly by setting up my gmail account during the inital setup screen but not setting up Facebook until you have booted in to the OS.

If you are a current user: No wipe should be required. However if you have any issues then do a full data wipe and re-flash the rom.

Fair warning: if you ask me something that is already answered in these release notes, the faq, or the known bugs then I’m probably not going to respond. Sorry.
